 Gang of One - History

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) established the Gang Intelligence Unit in August 2003. Gang of One was established in February 2004 in the Eastway Division with the introduction of a 24/7/365 gang hotline. Gang of One expanded into all CMPD Divisions in February 2005. The Gang of One Community Collaborative Model was developed in February 2006. The Gang Prevention Coalition was established in May 2007. The Community Impact Projects in July 2009.

 Vision

To be the premier gang prevention and intervention program in the United States.

 Mission

To prevent youth from joining gangs, support youth being pressured to join a gang, and assist youth in getting out of a gang.

 Purpose

To connect existing community resources to youth (and their families) who need assistance to stay out or get out of a gang and to educate the community about gang trends.
